Session Title:

Plant reproduction: mechanisms and evolution

Keywords:

Plant reproduction, Sex evolution, Sex determination, Mating systems

Abstract:

Plants have an unrivalled diversity of sexual systems, and offer a unique opportunity to shed light into mechanisms and evolution of sexual (and asexual) reproduction. The combination of experimental and computational approaches, and the comparative analysis between model and non-model organisms, are allowing a broader understanding of the molecular underpins and ultimate drivers of reproduction-related processes. From sex determination, mechanisms involved in asexual reproduction, to the molecular basis of gamete fusion and early zygote development, to evolution of mating systems, immense advances have been achieved in recent years. We aim to bring together key players in these areas to cover the recent exciting breakthroughs in plant reproduction research.
